The Tatiara Water Allocation Plan (the Plan) supports over 300 water licences and diverse industries from lucerne production to viticulture. A review of the Plan commenced in 2017, reaching its first major consultation in 2021. Key concepts for the revised Plan were consulted on with substantial feedback received.

Feedback was mainly around the complexity of some of the key concepts and how they would operate in practice. Following consideration of this feedback further work was undertaken on a draft revised Plan. There was also then a temporary halt to the amendment process due to resourcing constraints.

“The Tatiara Water Allocation Plan is critical for managing the sustainability of the water resources for the environment, townships, and industries in the area,” said Limestone Coast Landscape Board General Manager Steve Bourne.

“We recognise how important the amendment process is and look forward to continuing to work with licence holders and community in the area to produce a revised Plan,” said Mr Bourne.

Work will get underway with the Stakeholder Advisory Group meeting in June. Representing community, environment, primary production and industry in the Tatiara Prescribed Wells Area, the Stakeholder Advisory Group will continue to support the amendment process.

Along with other consultation, the Group will be critical in achieving a meaningful revision to the Plan.
