A Night at the Caves, hosted by The Limestone Coast Landscape Board in collaboration with Naracoorte Caves and Naracoorte Lucindale Council, was a buzz of activity in the school holidays with over 200 people in attendance.

The event provided many hands-on activities from children’s craft, storytelling under the stars, First Nations basket weaving, cultural sessions in Blanche Cave and nature scavenger hunts.

Naracoorte Caves provided tours of Blanche Cave and Wonambi Fossil Centre which was a highlight for all in attendance.

“The event was a huge success, and a fantastic collaboration between organisations. The Limestone Coast community really support these events, getting out in our local landscape and experiencing the natural wonders around them,” said Damien Bickley from the Limestone Coast Landscape Board Education team.

“Learning about the fascinating Southern bent-wing bat and the impact they have on the environment were the key take home messages for all participants.”

The spectacular sight of bats departing the cave on dusk was the perfect finish to the evening, with local bat expert Nicola Bail and Cassie Hlava from the Limestone Coast Landscape Board presenting in the Bat Observation Centre.
